Alexander Kokorin was born in Valuyki in Belgorod Oblast. He found himself learning his craft at Lokomotiv before starting his professional career at Dinamo Moscow. In 2013 he moved to Anzhi, but never played for the Makhachkala club and returned to Dinamo. 

On 30 January 2016 he joined Zenit and so far he has played 44 matches and scored 11 goals with 4 assists for the club. He has also won the Russian Cup and the Super Cup of Russia.
