Zenit fan interview: A new editor from Argentina for our Spanish site

We've added another Argentinian to our Zenit team, say hello to Mateo, who's joined our Spanish-language team over at es.fc-zenit.ru.

I'm still at high school, I love playing football video games and spend my time watching football videos on Youtube. I'm also of course a big Zenit fan and enjoy anything football related.

How did you first get interested in Zenit?

My first interaction with Zenit was in 2012, when I learnt that Hulk was going to play in the Russian Premier League, I started following the club and was delighted when Zenit signed Driussi and Paredes!

How do you feel about the Europa League, what are your predictions?

I think Zenit have a very good chance to do well in Europe this season, I cwon't give you a prediction, but I think with the signings we've made and with Mancini's experience and track record, I think Zenit is going to do very well this season.

Who’s your all-time favourite Zenit player? Who do you like in the current squad and why?

I think it's got to be Hulk, It can be difficult here to watch Zenit matches because of the time difference and as I'm so young I'm not sure about some of the players from the past. I really like Driussi too. He is a young player with a goal scorers instinct, he has a great future ahead and its reallt great he's at Zenit because he's Argentine (a little joke!)

What’s your best Zenit memory?

When Zenit won the Russian Premier League in 2014/15 I think, the team was so strong then and we had some amazing players.

What are you hoping for us this season?

I think Zenit have a very good chance in the Russian Premier League, Mancini has made a strong start with the club, so far it's played four, won four, I'm confident about our chances!

Which areas of the squad would you like to see Zenit strengthen in? Who realistically should we be looking at signing?

I think Zenit have made some great signings this season, we look strong in most areas, a new centre back might be needed to replace Lombaerts (ed- Interview taken before Mammana's transfer, another Argentinian) but I think we look in good shape.

You live in Cordoba, how would you describe this city for your fellow fans? What’s the local football like?

Cordoba is a typical Argentinian city, with active weekends, parties, etc. Our most famous football club is Club Atletico Belgrano, they play in the Argentina Premier League and wear almost the same colours as Zenit.

If Zenit fans plan to visit your part of the world what place is a must-see and what food should they try?

I will recommend to visit during the football season, more specifically at the time of Super Clasico (Boca Juniors v River Plate) and to visit the stadium and watch it played. I recommend to try foods called "asado" and "choripan", the most typical things we eat in this country, not forgetting the "mate" and the "empanadas" too.

Do you have a message for the manager, The team and all the Zenit fans out there?

Strive to win and make St Petersburg happy! It's going to be a great season!
