Sergey Pukhov finished medical school in 1979. In 1988 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the theme of the functional condition of the liver of sportsmen.
After finishing the institute he worked for different DYSSh and SDYShOR, experimenting with groups on how to extend endurance.
From 1989 to 2006 he was the doctor for the track and field national team. He worked three different Olympics (Atlanta, Sydney and Athens).
He is a Ph.D. and Honoured Doctor of Russia.
