Andre Villas-Boas: "I think we can now go on and win the title"

The Boss of the blue-white-sky blues summed up the final of the Cup of Russia, discussed the role of Danny in the team and explained that the confrontations with Slutsky are irrelevant for him.

I think it was a very good game to watch and difficult for both teams in the first half, both teams didn’t want to make mistakes and were cautious. In the second half they started strong and we changed the system a little bit and things really improved, we found more space, more of the ball and this is why we scored.

Congratulations to the players and the board of the club on this wonderful win and I think we can now go on and win the title.

After each goal the players were surrounding Danny and celebrating with him, is he the soul of the team?

Yes, he is an important part in our leadership and the players wanted to thank him and show their support to him in this difficult time. It was very emotional for him. The players wanted to show respect to him and we miss him a lot. We miss him in our preparations and playing the game.

What was your prediction for the match before Kick-off, was this what you expected?

It’s always difficult to play against CSKA, if you make a mistake against them they score. They are a strong team on the counter-attack and even more dangerous with Musa on the left, we really had to be cautious. That’s why it was so slow in the first 20 minutes.

The sending half was better, more emotional, it was better for us and not for CSKA. I think the ref got all the decisions right, I’m very happy with the win and the trophy. This is what we play football for, to win things! This is our second trophy of the season and we’re really pleased with it for the fans and the club.

How many bottles of champagne will you have to celebrate tonight?

Todays a day of celebration for us, it won’t affect the next game against Anzhi. Tomorrow we won’t train and we’ll let them go out and enjoy the day.

This is another match between you and Slutsky, he’s never beaten you in a game, were you aware of this?

This doesn’t affect me, we were very close to losing the game in Khimki earlier this season when we scored in the last minute. These games are always very tight. Us coaches don’t look at this as we don’t compete directly it’s our teams. I’ve been very lucky and fortunate with these games.

It’s the players who make the difference, it’s them who’ve won over the CSKA players, not the coaches.
