Vladislav Radimov: "I will do everything I can to get as many young players as possible in the Zenit team"

The Coordinator of the Zenit Academy spoke about his hopes for the young players at their graduation ceremony.
Vladislav are things the same here as when you were a young player?

Yes, about the same. From 10 years old we started to study in the special school classes, located just across the street from the Academy. From 13 we were playing at Academy, we were given a big bag and a set of kit and from then for three years we chased our dream to get into Zenit.

Do you feel nostalgic today?

There's always nostalgia about when you were at school. Me with Slava Malafeev, who also studied with me from seven years old, today were talking about this. Of course, we have some fond memories.

Have you seen a spark in the eyes of the young guys?

I even got tears when they were singing the academy song.

For young guys, things are just beginning,  what parting words will you give them?

The most important thing is that they become good people. It does not matter which team they play for, for sure they will have bad times and defeats, this happens to every football player, but the most important thing is to become a worthy person and be like that throughout your life and your career. I hope that our Academy always produces good people.

Are there any Arshavins or Radimovs in the group?

We can't say this now, only time will tell. There are many talented players, but it all depends on how they cope with difficulties. They must understand that a lot of hard work lies ahead. Zenit are a top-level team and to get there they have to work very hard. But if they achieve this, then I will be really pleased for them. I am really proud that I am a graduate of this school and played for Zenit many times with the captain's armband and ended my career at my home town club. I hope these guys also get to make a good career and devote most of it to Zenit.

Do you have a desire to make changes at the Academy and to see more young players in the first team?

It's silly to say that I don't have such hopes. Of course, you really want the guys from our backyard to get there. I have a lot of ideas and so do Slava Malafeev and Sergei Fursenko. I will do all I can to help, but now it's not about statements, we just need to work really hard and quietly get on with the job.
