Danil Shamkin makes his debut for Zenit U19s aged 15

We spoke to the Zenit debutante about his first match for the U19s against Anzhi.
When did you start training with the Zenit U19s and when did you find out you will play today?

I started training with the youth team last week, after I returned from a tournament in Spain. At first I was told that I would spend two days training with the team, but then the coaching staff decided I should stay, then yesterday I was told I was playing.

Were you excited to get out on the pitch

At first, yes. But then I got used to it, I realised that the pitch is the same, the ball is the same and I calmed down quite quickly.

What did Alexander Gorshkov say to you before the game?

He asked if I was ready, and said that my first pass should be to my own side, to give me confidence. He also asked me to shoot alot.

You are still only 15, it must feel special to make your debut at such a young age?

Yes, it's very nice.

What further plans do the coaches have for you: will you train with the youth team or go back to the academy side?

First I'll go to Moscow together with the U17s team for league matches against Rubin and Krasnodar. And then I'll join the my age group. So now I'm playing for three teams!
