Andrey Lunev: “The match in Krasnodar was the title decider”

Andrey Lunev, the Zenit number 1, spoke to us and summarised the season.
On the plane from Grozny, you were asked how you felt about winning the league and you weren't sure, how do you feel now

After the match with CSKA, when I lifted the cup over my head it felt a little strange, I didn't know how to behave. Everyone was happy and I was happy too. But it was more than just happiness, it was very satisfying as we'd been going for this for a long time.

Before the trophy celebrations at the Gazprom Arena, there was also the fans meeting you at the airport. Did you expect it to be so lively?

When the plane landed, my mother messaged me that something big was happening, so I was ready for it and It was great, really colorful and fun.

Did you manage to light a flare?

I really wanted to, but I was not allowed for safety reasons.

The fans congratulated the team twice, first at the airport and then after the match with CSKA Moscow and you had the celebrations on the plane too, how was it for you?

We celebrated really hard, especially the foreign players, it was even a little scary. But we really felt the emotions when we landed and came out and saw the fans and saw how many people had come at such a late time. Then I understood that we did was so important for people, for those that believed in us and for whom we played.

When there are 60,000 people cheering for you it's very loud, can you hear all that from the pitch?

It’s impossible to ignore it or not hear it, or perhaps I just haven’t mastered that skill yet. I hear the songs and the chants. I try not to look at what's happening in the stands as I'm concentrating on the game.

What was the title-winning match, in Krasnodar or in Grozny?

In Krasnodar. I would call that game vital, as were the next two home games. But the victory over Krasnodar was the key one. If we went into the matches with Dynamo and Krylia Sovetov in a bad mental state, everything could have turned out differently. We would have had to chase results and the other teams would have been close. It would have been very hard. Although we started the game badly with Dynamo, but with Krylia it was not a very good ending. But after the feelings in Krasnodar, it would be strange to fail then, after all our efforts. We could not afford this.
