Elena Ilyukhina: “Our club have a long-lasting and friendly relationship with Barcelona”

Zenit’s Chairman of the Board of Directors on the new Smena arena at the Gazprom Training Centre and the game against Barcelona.

The development of youth football cannot take place without the development of infrastructure. We now have a fully modern, new stadium at the academy. It was important for us that the stadium is really comfortable and the pitch had to be great so that the players can play to the maximum of their ability.

How did you get Barcelona to come here? Was it hard to negotiate the games?

Our club have a long-lasting and friendly relationship with Barcelona, and its the second year in a row they have visited us.

When you were arranging this game, did you realise the amount of young Zenit fans that would come to watch the game?

Everything we do is for the children, for them to get energised by the game of football, for them to feel passionate about football, and for them to come to the Gazprom Academy and become professionals.

Did you plan any cultural excursions for our guests?

We all know that if you invite guests to St. Petersburg you have to show them the city and that is happening soon.

Will there be an away game for Zenit in Barcelona?

I think yes, Barcelona are very friendly and helpful in these things.
