The friendly game will be the third in history between Zenit and Schalke. The first took place in January 2007 in Germany and ended in a 2-1 win for the hosts.

The second match was held in November 2018 at the Gazprom Arena and ended in a 2-1 Zenit win.

The March game will be the first at the newly reconstructed Parkstadion Arena which has a capacity of 5,000.
