Alexander Anyukov was born on 28 September 1982 in Samara, then known as Kuibyshev. He made his debut for his hometown club Krylia Sovetov in 2000 and moved to Zenit in 2005.

Anyukov played 417 times for Zenit, scoring 13 goals and creating 30 assists. Alexander Anyukov is the only player to win the Russian league title five times. He also won the UEFA Cup, the UEFA Super Cup and two Russian Cups while a Zenit player.

In August 2020, he joined Sergei Semak's coaching team.
