Derby day delight for Zenit 2

The blue-white-sky-blues edged the Saint Petersburg derby against Leningradets with a 1-0 victory.

Zenit 2 started the game with the entirety of the starting XI being footballing students from Saint Petersburg.

Both teams started the game well with attacking intent. Leningradets had the first real chance of the game when an error from captain Nikolay Tarasov was latched onto by the Leningradets striker, who couldn’t put it past Odoevsky.

Vladislav Radimov made two changes at half time, bringing on attacker Mikhail Pogorelov and defensive fullback Islam Zhilov in place of Zapryagaev and Chibisov.

Radimov’s change soon paid dividends as substitute Mikhail Pogorelov fired a shot low and hard from insider the area into the Leningradets ‘keeper’s near post to make it 1-0 to the blue-white-sky-blues after 50 minutes.

After victory on the road, Zenit 2 move up to 5th in the PFL Group 2 standings with 23 points after 13 matchdays played. Zenit 2 welcome Dynamo Moscow 2 to the Smena Stadium next week, kick off time is at 1pm!
