Gazprom Academy pupils pay their respects to the victims of the Siege of Leningrad

Students from the Gazprom Academy visited the Piskarevsky cemetery on the anniversary of the liberation of Leningrad 77 years ago.

The students laid flowers at the memorial on the site where many of the victims of the Great Patriot War are laid to rest. 

Stepan Shevchenko, a midfielder from the Gazprom Academy's 2007 team told us: “When we went to the Piskarevsky Memorial, it felt like an important event and when we arrived here it really hit me. Understanding that half a million people are buried here made me feel very sad, but I am grateful for the opportunity to visit this important place."

This year is the 77th anniversary of the liberation of Leningrad from the 872 day Nazi blockade, which lasted from 8th September 1941 to 27th January 1944.
