Javi Garcia: “Both Zenit and Real Betis have strong squads and amazing stadiums with an incredible atmosphere”

Javi, what do you think about Zenit v Betis? Do you have a favourite team?

I was very glad to find out Zenit and Betis will play together, this way I get to see the two teams I played for face each other. Both Zenit and Betis have strong squads and amazing stadiums with an incredible atmosphere. I think the teams will enjoy the matches. I’m not ready to pick a favourite though, both teams are playing quality football this season.

This La Liga season Betis are at the top of the table. How would you describe Manuel Pellegrini’s team? What are their strengths?

I think right now the most outstanding and dangerous parts of Betis is the core of confident players who get along well on the pitch. The team game is perfect, high speed, lots of goals. But I don’t know whether Betis can keep up this rhythm and this confidence ‘till February.

And which side are you on this February?

Oh, a difficult question. I am definitely watching the games, and may the best team win! both teams my family and I felt great and enjoyed the time there, so I can’t choose between them.

Do you still keep an eye on Zenit’s performances in Russia and in Europe?

I always have and I still do! As I said before, Zenit is forever in my heart, my family and I spent three wonderful years in St. Petersburg. The team has been on fire the last couple of years under Semak, they are winning title after title, and that comes from the hard coaching work. In my opinion, keeping such a high level in the team’s performance for such a long time is the most difficult in management.

Can you give us some tips on how Zenit could beat Betis?

Pay close attention to Nabil Fekir and Sergio Canales, they are the team’s engine (smiles).
