Dmitry Nikolaevich Besov has passed away at the age of 98
Dmitry Besov was born in Leningrad on 16 April 1924. His football career started at FC Krasnaya Zaria. He served in World War II and was awarded military orders and medals for his conduct.

 In 1968 he oversaw the creation of the Smena Football School and had been managing it until July 2005. More than fifty top level footballers graduated from this school, ten of them became champions of the USSR in 1984 as Zenit players, and more than twenty winning league winners medals in total.

In 2009 Smena was reorganized into Gazprom Academy and in 2014 it was named after Dmitry Besov.

Dmitry Besov was chairman of the children’s and youth committee of city’s football federation from 1962 to 1995, member of children’s committee of the USSR’s football federation from 1962 to 1974, presidium member of city’s football federation from 1966 to 1995. He was an honoured worker of physical education of RSFSR. He was awarded order of honour in 1997 and was a laureate of the Strelets award in 1998.
