St. Petersburg will host the 17th International Youth Football Tournament in Memory of Yuri Morozov

The Gazprom Academy will host the annual tournament in memory of the USSR and Zenit legend Yuri Morozov from 22 to 25 August.

St. Petersburg will host the 17th International Youth Football Tournament in Memory of Yuri Morozov

The tournament will host players born in 2009 and will see international teams from Russia and Belarus compete with Zenit, Kairat from Kazakhstan, Fluminense from Brazil and Club Deportivo Guadalajara from Mexico.

The Morozov tournament will see all six sides play each other in a league with three points for a win and positions determined by the following indicators:

number of points, number of wins, goal difference, number of goals scored.

All games will take place at the Gazprom Academy at 21 Vernosti Ulitsa. Fans are invited and admission is free.

Yuri Andreevich Morozov was part of the 1976 Olympics bronze medal winning team and part of the USSR team that finished as runners-up in the 1988 European Championships. He won a bronze medal in the 1980 USSR Championship and the 2001 Russian Championship. He was awarded the title of Honored Coach of the RSFSR in 1981 and Honored Coach of the USSR in 1989. He is a laureate of the Sagittarius Prize and was awarded the Order of Peoples’ Friendship.

This international youth tournament has been held in St. Petersburg since 2006 and was originally organised with the participation of the Zenit football club by the Mikhail Biryukov Master Class Foundation. The tournament came under the full patronage of Zenit Football Club in 2011. 

Previous participants of the tournament include CSKA Moscow, Spartak Moscow, Dynamo Kiev, Shakhtar Donetsk, PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord, Red Bull Leipzig, Schalke, Porto, Tottenham Hotspur, Hoffenheim, Benfica, Valencia and Arsenal.
