The Zenit captain spoke to us after the defeat in Krasnodar.
Douglas Santos: "We need to look at what went wrong today"

A disappointing result for Zenit, what can you tell us about the game?

We tried very hard to play our best in this match and show how well we can play, but, unfortunately, it didn’t happen. When we lose we know that the other team is better than us, so we need to look at our mistakes and see what didn’t work today so we can improve. We will work on it in training and again give our all on the pitch with the intensity and quality the fans expect from us.

Is it worth talking about the fairness or unfairness of this defeat? Or is this pointless?

No, I don’t think it’s about fairness. It was a match where both sides had a 50/50 chance of winning, but if we had put in more effort, played better, the result could have been different. When we don’t do that, we always lose points. We needed to start the game better and keep up the intensity from the first 15 minutes until the final whistle. I think we need to improve all of this to keep moving forward and create more chances during games.

What is the most important thing right now, to forget this game as soon as possible or remember everything and draw the right conclusions?

The good thing about football is that you always have the next game. When one game finishes, you are already thinking about the next one. On Wednesday we’re playing in the Russian Cup, but now, we need to look at what went wrong today so that in the next games we don't make the same mistakes that we made in Krasnodar.
