Zenit U12 shine at the Izmir cup

The tournament took place in Turkey from 7 April to 9 April, the Gazprom Academy received a special prize and their captain Ivan Umnov became the top goal scorer.

In the group stage Zenit U12 played eight matches and lost only once to Schalke 04 from Germany 1-0. The Gazprom Academy team won the matches against KVC Westerlo (Belgium) 1-0, Beşiktaş (Turkey) 2-1, Giresunspor (Turkey) 6-0, Izmir (Turkey) 3-0, Metz (France) 6-0 and Neftçi (Azerbaijan) 6-0 and drew with Italian giants Juventus 2-2.

Zenit U12s made it to the play-offs from first place in the group and faced Bayer Leverkusen, where they went out 6-5 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

After going out of the tournament, Zenit U12 won friendlies against Marseille 2-1, PAOK (Greece) 3-1 and Hamburger (Germany) 4-0.

Zenit captain Ivan Umnov was top goal scorer of the whole tournament.

FC Altınordu has been hosting the Izmir Cup since 2013 and the tournament is considered to be one of the biggest competitions among the youth teams. In total more than 250 clubs have taken part in the Izmir Cup since it began.
