Joint statement of Spartak (Moscow) and Zenit (St. Petersburg) football clubs

On Wednesday, October 27th, after the final whistle of a very tense match between Spartak Moscow and Zenit St. Petersburg, the fighting passion that had been overflowing on the football pitch was, to our great dismay, manifested off the field as well. An extremely unpleasant incident took place in close proximity to the team benches: a scuffle between representatives of both clubs. FC Spartak Moscow and FC Zenit (St. Petersburg) regret this incident, and give their apologies to their fans at the stadium and at their television screens. We are very disappointed with this episode which ruined the overall impression from this uncompromising and interesting match. The clubs consider such manifestations of aggression to be unacceptable, and will take the according disciplinary measures in relation to those people who took part in the conflict.

Football is our common asset. It’s a celebration for millions of people. And two of the most popular football teams in Russia will take care in the future not to darken the game with disgraceful behavior, and will hold the utmost respect for one another on the field and off it.
