Roman Shirokov: “We`ll win at home. One hundred percent!”

Roman Shirokov shared his opinion about Russia`s Euro-2012 qualifying match with Armenia (0:0) right after the game.

— Are you satisfied with the result?
— Of course not. We came here to win, but unfortunately we didn`t succeed.

—What was lacking?
— We seemed to control the match, but we just didn`t have enough luck, probably…

— Or enough skills? Tell us, what happened when you had the chance to go one-on-one against the goalkeeper? You didn`t have enough space?
— No, I just didn`t trap the ball probably. The ball came from behind my back, but that`s no excuse, since we have to take advantage of chances like that.

— What do you think about the Armenian national side?
— Overall they play hard, but we`re stronger, and we should have beat them.

— And if we compare the Armenian side to Ireland or Slovakia?
— Those teams will probably be stronger.

— Didn`t it seem to you today that your opponent plays well only at home?
— I haven`t seen how it plays on the road. But if you want to know about our home match against them, we`re going to beat them at home. One hundred percent!

— Even 100?!
— Ya. We haven`t fulfilled our task to the end yet, since we wanted to get six points from two matches with Armenia. So now we have to get four, at least.

— Did the national team know that the matches with Armenia and Qatar could be the deciding factor in determining Russia`s World Cup 2014 qualifying basket?
— Ya.

— And now you can`t fulfill this task either?
— I don`t know, but we`re going to try to win in Qatar.

— How did you like the atmosphere in the stadium?
— It was fine. We have stadiums with more people, and they cheer the same way. The only thing I didn`t like was the way the fans were shouting during the national anthem. Maybe that`s the way they do things here, but it`s different everywhere else in the world.
