English referees have overseen Zenit play 15 times with the blue-white-sky blues gaining eight victories, three draws and four defeats.
Andre Marriner has met with a Russian team only once, in 2011 he refereed the match between CSKA and PAOK which ended in a 1-0 for the Moscow side.
The match with Real Sociedad will be held on Thursday 28 September and will start at 20:00 St. Petersburg time.
