Gustavo Mantuan: “Seven is a great number, and seven goals are even better”

The Zenit midfielder spoke to us on the match against Krasnodar, the new annual tradition and his favorite position on the pitch.

Gustavo Mantuan: “Seven is a great number, and seven goals are even better”

Congratulations on your goal against Sochi! How are you getting used to St. Petersburg and Zenit? Which position is your favorite out on the pitch?

“I’m very happy that I was able to score in the match against Sochi, but it’s more important that the team won. As for getting used to the city and the team, everything is going well. Both Brazilian and Russian players are helping me, I have great relationships with them.

Talking about positions on the pitch, I feel fine in different positions, and I’m ready to play anywhere the manager wants me to. Though my favorite one is on the left flank of the attack.”

You scored in the match against Sochi and made the score 7-0, exactly one year on from that Zenit big win against Spartak when it was 7-1. Is there some kind of magic with 24 October, have you talked about it with the team?

“There really is certain magic with numbers. Seven is a great number, and seven goals are even better. I hope it’s going to become a good tradition for Zenit to repeat something like this every year.”

Obviously every player wants to get as much playing time as possible. Are you ready to play for the whole 90 minutes and what can you say about the upcoming match?

“I sure am ready to play for 90 minutes, but it’s the decision of the manager as he knows what’s best for the team. Regarding Krasnodar, we’re analysing the opponent and getting ready for the match both physically and mentally. It’s going to be a difficult away match. If I’m not mistaken, Krasnodar are in fifth place now, so we’re expecting it to be a tough game. We will do everything we can to come back home with a win.”
