Wílmar Barrios: “It’s important to be fit for the second half of the season”

The Zenit midfielder’s words on the second Gazprom training camp in Dubai.
Wílmar Barrios: “It’s important to be fit for the second half of the season”
Wílmar, how do you feel being in this ice bath?

“I feel great, it’s part of the recovery process after an intense training session. It’s good for the body, for the muscles, it helps me recover faster. I like taking ice baths.”

We’ve noticed that you’re in a really good mood today. Is there a reason for that?

“Honestly, I’m in this sort of mood every day. I wake up feeling grateful for another day, for my loved ones being healthy, that everything is alright, I do what I love and I’m part of an amazing team. I’m grateful for everything being as great as it is.”

The first training camp is over, can you tell us about the first few days of this second camp?

“After a few days off, which we always have between training camps it’s not very easy to get back to work, so the first days of the second training camp are always a little bit more difficult. It’s fine though, we’re getting back into it and increasing the intensity as it’s important to be fit for the second half of the season.”

How did you spend the three days off? Was it enough time to recover?

“It was enough time to see my family, to enjoy sunny Dubai and relax a little bit. Now everything is good, and I’ll reiterate, it’s important for us to be fit for the second half of the season. We have specific aims and we know what we have to do.”

How would you rate your fitness level? Are you ready for the season to resume or is it too early to speak about that?

“I wouldn’t say that we’re fully ready as we need more friendly matches to help us feel the rhythm of the game again. The matches are ahead of us though, so in about a week it will be possible to say that we’re getting back to a competitive state of mind and we’re going to be fully ready for the first official matches.”
