Gustavo Mantuan: “I feel great and I’m ready for the next match”

Today’s man of the match shared his thoughts on the game in Sochi.

Gustavo Mantuan: “I feel great and I’m ready for the next match”

Gustavo, today’s game was quite challenging. Why do you think it was this way?

“I think it was just a difficult match against a team that plays well at home. We started the game with a conceded goal, which wasn’t great, so some things became more difficult for us. Although, despite all this, I think we started the second half really well, and every match should begin like this. In the end, we were able to score an equalizer. I wouldn’t say that this is a terrible result, but without a doubt it’s not the score we were expecting on the way here.”

Today was the first day when you were the only Brazilian playing for Zenit. Did this affect you in any way?

“It didn’t change anything, but it certainly was a little bit strange not to have my Brazilian teammates on the pitch. Today Wílmar Barrios was our captain, and he was explaining things just like our Brazilians usually do, he did a great job with it and overall he was a great captain. I wouldn’t say that there were any specific difficulties, it didn’t affect my performance, but it was a bit unusual.”

Could you comment on the episode where you got injured please? The fans on the stands were chanting that there was supposed to be a penalty.

“It’s not a big deal and there’s no need to worry, it definitely wasn’t a penalty. I just felt fatigue in the muscles that led to the pain that I didn’t want to make worse. Now I feel great and I’m sure that I’m ready for the next match, but in that moment I thought that it would be better to take it easy.”
