Douglas Santos: "We’ll learn something from the game and move forward."

We spoke to the Zenit captain after the 1-0 defeat in Kaliningrad.
Douglas Santos: "We’ll learn something from the game and move forward."

How would you rate today’s game?

We were aiming to play a good game and came here looking for the win, just like any other match. Unfortunately, we were not aggressiveness enough today and made a lot of mistakes when passing. We failed to impose our game on them and we paid the price for that. This is absolutely not what we wanted to do in front of our travelling fans.

This is the first time you’ve played Baltika in Kaliningrad. What do you think of the stadium and the atmosphere?

It’s a great stadium, with a great atmosphere. You can see that people love the team and support it. Baltika are a quality side, and play aggressive football, which we didn’t today, and we were outplayed by the hosts, who had a very good game. We now return to St. Petersburg feeling frustrated, but we’ll learn something from the game and move forward.

Will this be a wake-up call for Zenit before the game with CSKA?

Every next game is important for us and each next game is the most important. We have to forget today and try to do everything to get the three points in the next game. It will be a very tough game at the top of the table, and we want to win points, not drop them. I want to keep aiming for the top so now we must rest, work on our mistakes and understand what we did wrong. With God’s help we’ll be able to get the win in Moscow.
