Mircea Lucescu: "Our players must prepare for a difficult game"

The blue-white-sky blue boss on the upcoming UEFA Europa League game with AZ Alkmaar and the current condition of the squad.

The question is simple, what concerns you most about this match?

I am concerned that AZ aren’t a well-known team. This is a team that is programmed for European competition, the club has to train and create new players and then sell them on. In the past year they have ended up with a positive financial balance and their direction is right. They build their game, depending on the financial abilities. Like all the Dutch teams, they have built a central axis of tall players and on the wings they are active, fast, small players. With Souza, Belhassani and so on, all have the chance to move on.

In this regard, we will play with a very motivated team - with many players whi certainly have the idea to sell themselves to Europe’s big clubs. Our players must prepare for the idea that we will have a difficult game. Today and tomorrow we will try to learn the game of this team, they are thoughtful and careful.

Can we say that the result of the game with Anzhi gave you a cold shower?

If you go back to the game with Anzhi, I will say one thing,  there was a clear penalty on Kokorin and that would have made the score 3-1, from that the opponent made their attack. That’s my explanation. In my opinion, the penalty on Kokorin was more obvious than the one on Neto. Unfortunately, The near-win turned into almost a loss. I'm sure the guys have been through this time and tomorrow will be a completely different match.

What mistakes have been corrected?

What I said will remain between me and the players. We have thoroughly analysed our game and found our mistakes. Hopefully, they will be no more.

Will Novoseltsev play?

Unfortunately, he won’t be ready for tomorrow's match. Most likely he won’t go to the national team either. Hopefully, after the international break he will return to training with all the others.

How are the other players coping with the difficult schedule?

The situation is not very easy. Of the 24 squad players only 17 trained. The rest are sick, injured or working on an individual program, like Fayzulin, Danny, and Ryazantsev. This complicates our rotation from game to game. All others are training very well and we are ready to play if required.
