Domenico Criscito was born in Cercola, near Naples, in southern Italy. He started playing football in early childhood in the Virtus Volla school, then went to Genoa. He played his first match for the “Griffins” on June 7, 2003.
Criscito moved to Juventus of Turin in 2004, with which he won the Italian youth championship. He returned to Genoa on loan in 2006, where he got a place in the starting side, and was then called up to the Italian national youth team. He came back to Juventus in 2007, but, having played 8 matches for the main side, lost his place to Giorgio Chiellini, and moved back to Genoa in 2009.
Criscito played 65 matches for Genoa from 2009 to 2011 and scored 2 goals. He played for the Italian national team for the first time on August 12, 2009. He went on to play for Italy at the World Cup in South Africa in 2010.Domenico joined Zenit on June 27, 2011.
