St. Petersburg will host the Yuri Morozov international memorial youth tournament

The 16th incarnation of the tournament in memory of Yuri Morozov, Honored Coach of the USSR, will be hosted by the Gazprom Academy from 24 to 27 August.

Zenit will be joined by the national teams of both Russia and Belarus, Crvena Zvezda from Serbia, Santos and Internacional from Brazil, Fenerbahce from Turkey and Kairat from Kazakhstan. The teams will consist of players born in 2008.

St. Petersburg football fans are invited to attend the games and entrance to all matches located at the Gazprom Academy at 21 Vernosti Street is free!

The tournament will see the teams split into two groups of four with the sides moving to a playoff stage determined by their group finish. Matches will last for 60 minutes and consist of two halves of 30 minutes each, with half-time being 15 minutes.

The following will be used to determine the placements of teams on the same number of points during the group stage:

- Most wins;
- Head-to-head result;
- Goal difference; 
- Most goals scored;
- by the drawing of lots. 

If the scores are level after full time in the playoff stages, then the winning team will be determined by penalty shootout.

Yuri Andreevich Morozov was part of the 1976 Olympics bronze medal winning team and part of the USSR team that finished as runners-up in the 1988 European Championships. He won a bronze medal in the 1980 USSR Championship and the 2001 Russian Championship. He was awarded the title of Honored Coach of the RSFSR in 1981 and Honored Coach of the USSR in 1989. He is a laureate of the Sagittarius Prize and was awarded the Order of Peoples’ Friendship.

This international youth tournament has been held in St. Petersburg since 2006 and was originally organised with the participation of the Zenit football club by the Mikhail Biryukov Master Class Foundation. The tournament came under the full patronage of Zenit Football Club in 2011. 

Previous participants of the tournament include CSKA Moscow, Spartak Moscow, Dynamo Kiev, Shakhtar Donetsk, PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord, Red Bull Leipzig, Schalke, Porto, Tottenham Hotspur, Hoffenheim, Benfica, Valencia and Arsenal.
