Ozodev was shown his second yellow on 49 minutes and Zenit played the remainder of the match with 10-men. This was Magomed Ozdoev's second red card this season, having previously been sent off in the Russian Super Cup tie against Lokomotiv Moscow at the start of the campaign.

The match ended 1-0 thanks to an Ilya Kutepov own goal on 21 minutes.
