Lunev will become the seventh Zenit player to join the national team for the March 2022 World Cup qualifiers. Yuri Zhirkov, Vyacheslav Karavaev, Daler Kuzyaev, Andrey Mostovoy, Magomed Ozdoev and Artem Dzyuba are also part of the squad.

The Russian national team is training in Sochi ahead of the games with Malta, Slovenia and Slovakia.
