Our Brazilian defender spoke to us after the Champions League game with Chelsea.
Douglas Santos: "We leave with our heads held high, we gave it our best and fought to the very end"
Zenit lost away to Chelsea, what are your thoughts on the match?

It was a good game and we came to take the points away from London, but even though we conceded the one goal we leave with our heads held high, we gave it our best and fought to the very end. We also had a chance to level the game. Now we need to look at the game, get some rest and continue in the same spirit, because we have more ahead of us. Zenit can go far in the Champions League.

Today you wore the captain's armband. Did this add pressure on you?

No, it motivated me and I'm pleased to be the captain and leader of the team. But this motivation is always within me and leads me, regardless of if I have the captains armband. I want to help the team and win titles with the team. Being captain is a special event for me and I am delighted about it.

What can you say about the speed of the match? Before the match, there was a lot of talk about how the English and Russian leagues differ in intensity. Did Zenit keep up with Chelsea's pace?

They play first-class football in England, but we showed today that we can compete with them and even look good against a team like Chelsea. The quality of their players is not in question, but we kept up with them, so this helps us believe in ourselves. Zenit played well, and yes, unfortunately, we did not get the win, but we are optimistic about the future.
