The tournament was dedicated to Pavel Fedorovich Sadyrin, the coach who first ed the blue-white-sky blues to the club's first league championship in 1984.

Pavel Sadyrin played for Zenit from 1965 to 1975 and was team captain for six seasons. He was Zenit head coach from 1983 to 1987, and from 1995 to 1996. 

Veteran players from Zenit, Spartak, Inreal and the RFU all played in the friendly tournament.
