We've rounded up some of the most important defending statistics for Sergei Semak's men from the first part of this RPL season.

1. Zenit have conceded only seven goals so far this season in the Russian Premier Liga and are by far the meanest defence. Spartak and CSKA are next in the table with 18 goals conceded each.

2. The champions have only conceded five goals from open play, Spartak, CSKA and Krylia Sovetov take joint-second place with 11 goals against them from open play. 

3. The team from St. Petersburg are the only RPL team to allow the opposition less than 10 shots per match. On average our opponents get only 6.8 shots on our goal every match. Next in the table with 10.9 are CSKA Moscow and in third with 11.3 are Spartak. 

4. We’re the best at restricting the opposition from playing in our final third too, with only 22% of the game taking place near our goal. The second best side in the league with 26% is CSKA, followed by 28% from Spartak and Ural.

5. When it comes to pressing intensity, Zenit only come in seventh. The league leaders in this department are Spartak, Lokomotiv and Khimki.

6. However, when it comes to counter pressing (pressing within five seconds after losing the ball in the opponent's half), we’re the top team in this stat!

7. Sergei Semak’s men are the cleanest team in the league, averaging only 6.8 fouls per game. Krylia Sovetov are next with 8.1 per game, followed by Rostov on 8.8.

8. When it comes to being fouled, we’re also in the top three. Rostov players are fouled 11.9 times per game, Lokomotiv players 11.8 and Zenit 11.6.

9. The blue-white-sky blues have received only 15 yellow cards so far this season, that’s half the amount of the next team Krylia Sovetov on 30.

10. Every side this RPL season have picked up at least one red card, Zenit, Spartak, Krylia Sovetov, Khimki and Orenburg all have a single sending off each.

11. Zenit’s forwards are offside just 1.9 times per game, the same amount as Akhmat and Orenburg.

12 And finally we’re the top side when it comes to keeping the ball in play during the match. In our games the ball is in play for 55 minutes 23 seconds. In second place are Sochi (53:14) and in third place are Krylia Sovetov (53:03).
