Mario Fernandes: "We must continue to go for our aim to be champions"

How was training today, it looked like a busy day, how do you feel?

Absolutely, today we had some difficult training sessions, but very good ones and that’s how it should be. It’s all part of pre-season preparation, so we resume the season at 100%.

This is your first winter training camp with Zenit. Have you noticed anything new?

Yes, this is my first full preseason with Zenit, but I wouldn’t say that there’s anything new I’m used to heavy workouts.

You’ve a number of friendlies ahead of you. Have you missed playing football?

Of course, I really miss football and it’s great that we have a lot of friendly matches lined up. When the league resumes we will be fully prepared and in good rhythm and match fitness. We must continue to go for our aim to be champions.

They say that the first week of training camp is the most difficult. Do you feel tired at all?

That’s right, the first week is the most difficult, because we’re coming off a month’s holiday so the body’s not used to this a long break. We do get very tired during training, we only have enough energy to train, eat and sleep.

Have you met all the new players?

The new players have been welcomed and made to feel as part of the team.

Do you know any of them? We understand that they are all younger than you, but maybe you’ve encountered each other before?

No we’ve never come across each other. I never played with them or against them, but I have watched them play in Brazil.
