Georges Duperron memorial plaque unveiled in St. Petersburg

On 27 May at 21 Ul. Dobrolyubova in St. Petersburg a memorial plaque for Georges Duperron was unveiled, he is regarded as one of the outstanding figures of Russian sport, the founder of Russian football and of the Olympic movement in Russia.
The opening ceremony of the memorial was attended by the President of the St. Petersburg Football Federation, Anatoly Turchak and Zenit club legend and manager of Zenit-2, Konstantin Zyryanov. 

"Today, on the birthday of St. Petersburg, we are opening this very important and necessary memorial plaque." said Anatoly Turchak. "Mr. Duperron really was the founder of our football. For 12 years he was Russia's representative to FIFA and UEFA and headed the football association in our country."

"I am glad that in our beautiful city, St. Petersburg, we do not forget to remember outstanding sporting figures, such as Georges Duperron. this memorial emphasises our link to previous generations." said Konstantin Zyryanov. "This event is very important for Zenit Football Club too, because George Duperron loved football and tried to install that love for this sport to the residents of our city and our country. Now that same task is facing our players. He lit a passion for football in people and we have only thanks to him for this!" 

The opening of the memorial plaque was one of the joint events between Zenit and the government of St. Petersburg celebrating the city's birthday. On the morning of 27 May near the walls of the Peter and Paul Fortress a large-scale Fan Promenade took place in celebration of the event of the 50th anniversary of the founding of Zenit's Gazprom Academy.
