Mateo Cassierra became the sixth Zenit player to end the RPL season as top scorer. Last year's race was also won by Zenit, thanks to Malcom with 23 goals. 

Previous winners include Alexander Kerzhakov (2004 season, 18 goals), Hulk (2014/15 season, 15 goals), Serdar Azmun (2019/20 season, 17 goals) and Artem Dzyuba twice (2019/20 season with 17 goals and in 2020/21 with 20 goals).
