Vukasin Jovanovic: "I’m 100% sure that moving to Zenit is the right choice"

The new signing of blue-white-sky blues on to move to St. Petersburg, the Serbian tradition at Zenit, the advice of Lukovic and his willingness to do anything to earn a place in the starting lineup.

- Welcome to St. Petersburg and to Zenit. How does it feel to be here?

- Thank you! I am very happy that finally all the documents are signed and now I am part of the largest club in Eastern Europe. Fr om that point on me it is a very big responsibility, I want to play and cannot wait for the first training session.

- You have already spent a few days in the city have you visited the base. How was it?

- I was very surprised by the city! I knew that he was very beautiful, but did not think it was so nice, because I have never been here before. Aleksandar Lukovic talked a lot about how things work here, saying how good this club, about people and about St.Petersburg. On the basis it is also excellent, I had time to get acquainted with some of the players. In general, I am very happy, and 100% sure that moving to Zenit is the right choice.

- You reminded us about Lukovic. How is he doing in Belgrade?

- I just watched Red Star’s first match in the second part of the season, they won 2-1, and he Lukovic played, he’s a great guy! When I was little, I looked up to him for the way he plays, including at Zenit on TV. Later when we were on the same team, it was just incredible. I've got a story I  have not told anyone, when Lukovic returned from Russia after our first training session together he said that I should come to St. Petersburg. And see here I am! Dreams come true!

- Not only Lukovic has played in Russia and at Zenit, but also a lot of other players from Serbia. Are you aware of this?

- Of course! Known Lazovic, Kezman, Rodicha, Veshtitsa, and all of them were very warmly welcomed. The fans and the club were happy with Serbian players, since there were many. And I hope that I am worthy of this tradition and will continue it.

In general, I am very glad that I came to a country so close to Serbia. Our people love each other, we have the same religion. I will do everything possible to succeed, to please the fans with how I play and my attitude. I can promise that every minute when I am on the pitch, I will chase and never give up, not just 100%, but 110%.

- In recent years, there have always been two players from the Balkans - Lazovic with Lukovic, Lukovic then to Djordjevic but you will be the only Serbian, is that a problem for you?

- Football is the universal language in itself, but of course I'm going to learn Russian, this is my main task in the near future. And improve my English of course. I already know some Russian, so the language issue is not exactly a problem. I am not worried about being alone, I met the players at the training base and they were very kind and gave me a warm welcome.

- Do you already know wh ere you will play?

- Now we have agreed that I will train with the first team and play for Zenit-2. But it all depends on me. If prove that is strong enough and worthy, I hope I can be in the first team.

- You are 19 years old, a career is just beginning. What do you want now?

- You know, some of my children's dreams have already come true. I won the World Championship with the national team, has successfully performed in the Serbian championship. So now the dream - to make progress with Zenit.
