Sergey Semak: "The workout the players got is more important than the result"

You’ve got a big win in the first friendly match of 2023, what did you think of the game?

I think that the score is not the most important thing. It is important that the players get into the rhythm of the game after such a long break. They found their speed and space, but the most important thing is that everyone is fit and well. We are pleased that we were able to play this friendly match.

Saus and Alip, who played in the first half, came back on in the second half, why was this?

Because we don’t have enough players to see that everyone only plays 45 minutes, so some had to play 60 or 65 minutes. We had a choice, either let someone play the full 90 minutes, or share things out more evenly among the players.

You had almost two different teams played in each half. Can you tell us about each of that please?

The first half was quieter than the second comparing chances and goals. In the second, we were able to score quickly and that changed the game, and it became easier. The first half was tougher and the opposition were more active, covering more area. But the game was different in the second half. Again, today the workout the players got is more important than the result.

Was the second half easier as the opposition were tired?

Let's see, we have sensors to monitor these things. We’ll process all the information and see who ran the most and the least. Perhaps, mentally is more difficult to play when the game is tougher, and there are few chances, but I think the effort displayed was similar in both halves.
